Why TRE® Therapeutic Tremoring Matters…
Let your body release.
A gentle somatic practice that invites the body's natural tremor response to release physical tension and support deeper regulation.
TRE®, Tension & Trauma Releasing for Vibrant Health, is a somatic-based embodiment practice in therapeutic tremoring, a simple yet powerful practice that works with the body's natural tremoring mechanism. Our work resources from the knowledge-base of TRE® & Shaking Medicine, weaving both methodologies together, giving you the blend of science & spirituality.
Rather than needing to talk through or revisit difficult experiences, TRE® gives the body an opportunity to move, sense and respond in its own way.
Your body may know how to let go.
TRE® is one of the main somatic embodiment experiences within Subtle SOMA Therapy. It invites the body's natural tremor response through a series of gentle physical exercises.
These tremors can create an opportunity to work with physical tension, sensation and patterns of holding without needing to tell the whole story behind them.
The practice is simple. You don't make the tremors happen. You allow them.
You give your body space to respond.
When the body has been carrying too much.
People explore TRE® for many different reasons. Often there is a sense that the body is holding something that the mind alone hasn't been able to shift.
Stress and tension that seem to stay in the body
Chronic tension in the hips, back, jaw or abdomen
Feeling emotionally heavy or overwhelmed
Burnout or difficulty coming out of high stress
Fatigue or feeling disconnected from the body
Feeling on edge or unable to fully relax
“It felt like my body finally exhaled.”
Working with the body's natural response.
During periods of stress, the body naturally prepares for action. Muscles can tighten, breathing can change and the nervous system can move into protective states.
TRE® uses a sequence of physical exercises to gently fatigue and engage muscles before allowing natural tremoring to emerge.
The tremoring may happen in the legs, hips, pelvis, abdomen or other areas of the body. The experience is different for everyone.
Rather than controlling the tremors, the practice emphasizes awareness, choice, pacing and the ability to pause whenever needed.
You don't make the tremors happen. You allow them.
Gentle physical exercises
We use a series of simple exercises to bring awareness into the body and prepare the muscles for tremoring.
The tremor response begins
Gentle shaking or vibration may begin naturally, often first in the legs and hips.
Stay within your capacity
You learn to notice intensity, sensation and activation so the process remains manageable and supportive.
Rest and notice
We finish by slowing down, sensing the body and allowing the experience to settle before returning to your day.
When the system feels stuck.
Dissociation, flooding and freeze can all be understood as protective responses to overwhelming stress. TRE® is not about forcing the body through these states. It is about developing enough awareness and capacity to work with sensation gently.
Dissociation
You may feel numb, disconnected or not fully present in your body.
Flooding
You may feel overwhelmed, anxious or emotionally activated.
Freeze
You may feel stuck, exhausted or unable to move forward despite wanting change.
Often much more subtle than expected.
People sometimes imagine TRE® will involve dramatic shaking or an intense emotional experience.
It can actually be very subtle. Your experience may change from session to session, and nothing needs to be forced.
From tension toward more ease.
Everyone comes to TRE® differently. Here are examples of the kinds of experiences people may explore through the practice.
“I'm always tense, even when nothing is wrong.”
- Tight jaw or clenched teeth
- Shoulders constantly lifted
- Difficulty relaxing even during rest
- Feeling on edge without an obvious reason
- Tremors may begin in the legs and move upward
- The jaw or shoulders may naturally soften
- Breathing may deepen or change
- The body may relax more easily
- Less background tension may be noticed
- Rest and sleep may feel more accessible
“I thought I had healed my trauma. Why am I still triggered?”
- Sudden anxiety or emotional reactions
- Feeling flooded or shut down
- Old reactions appearing in new situations
- Tremors may remain mostly around the hips or core
- Emotional waves may come and go
- There is no requirement to revisit memories
- Triggers may feel less charged
- More space may appear between sensation and reaction
- A greater sense of choice may develop
Beyond words, into the body.
Talk therapy and somatic practices can offer different pathways into self-understanding. TRE® focuses specifically on physical sensation, movement and the body's natural tremor response.
Small shifts can become a deeper change.
TRE® is not about dramatic overnight transformation. With consistent practice, people may begin to notice changes in how they experience their bodies, stress and emotional responses.
You don't have to force the release.
TRE® offers a space to slow down, listen to your body and explore its natural capacity for movement, sensation and release.
